Lalilo February ’22 Writing Prompt Calendar

Writing is a great way to boost literacy in the classroom, and daily writing is even better. We’ve created this free February writing prompt calendar to help your students develop a daily writing habit. If you are currently doing remote or hybrid learning, you can send this writing prompt calendar to families or add it to your Google classroom so kids can write at home.

This variety of both fiction and non-fiction writing prompts will help your students reflect on giving and receiving love, President’s Day, and Black History Month.

If you have a writing journal that you already use with your students, we’ve also included a plain-text list of our February writing prompt calendar below.

Week 1

• If you could live one day over again, what day would it be?
• Do you like to play inside or outside? What do you do there?
• What is the best sound in the world?

Week 2

• How can you show your family that you love them?
• Write about a time you felt loved.
• Do you like Valentine’s Day? Why or why not?
• Write a list of 10 things you love about yourself.
• How do you know that someone loves you?

Week 3

• Write about a person you love. What makes them special?
• If you could speak to the President of the United States, what would you say?
  President’s Day is February 15. If you are looking for more ways to celebrate with your students, we like these ideas from We Are Teachers for more President’s Day classroom activities.
• Imagine there is a parade just for you. What floats would you like to see?
• People should be treated equally because…
• Write a story about going on an adventure with a friend.

Week 4

• Make a list of things you accomplished this week. How do you feel?
• Have you ever volunteered to help someone? What did you do?
• Who is someone you admire? Why?
• What is something you can do now that used to be hard for you to do?
• What do you think it would be like to live in the past? What year would you choose?

Week 5

• The most inspirational story I’ve learned during Black History Month is…
